I’d like to share with you a fun and easy sing-along song to teach preschoolers in the Fall. This song can be found in my Pumpkin-themed lesson plan, but you can use this movement-based song anytime in the Fall.
Once I Had A Pumpkin is a piggyback song of Did You Ever See A Lassie.
On the first verse, the leader can put their hands over their head like a pumpkin. Then they can point to facial features as they sing “no eyes…” For the final verse, draw the facial features for the jack-o-lantern in the air. Repeat the entire song again, this time encouraging the children to do the actions.
Here are the lyrics:
Oh, once I had a pumpkin, a pumpkin, a pumpkin.
With no eyes and no nose and no mouth and no teeth.
Oh, once I had a pumpkin with no face at all.
So I made a jack-o-lantern, jack-o-lantern, jack-o-lantern.
So I made a jack-o-lantern with a big funny face.
With big eyes and a big nose and big mouth and big teeth.
So I made a jack-o-lantern with a big funny face.
