You probably know that I’m a huge fan of piggyback songs for young children and their parents because they are so easy to learn and remember.
Today I’m sharing a super easy piggyback song about driving that is featured in my Little Blue Truck lesson plan.
I Am Driving All Around is a piggyback song that uses the tune of Mary Had A Little Lamb.
The lyrics are super simple and easy to adapt to include other vehicles or movements.
Here are the lyrics: (find the free sheet music below!)
I am driving all around,
all around, all around,
I am driving all around,
driving in my car!
I often use this song in a transportation themed class and as I mentioned above, it is featured in my Little Blue Truck lesson plan. I have the students move about the room pretending to hold steering wheel as they drive their car. In the Little Blue Truck lesson, we’ll sing “truck” instead of “car”.
It’s a lot of fun to ask the kids to come up with other vehicles to sing about. They usually love to think of all of the ways to get around and there are so many great movements to correspond with different modes of transportation. For example:
- I am flying…on a plane (with arms out pretending to fly)
- I am riding…on my bike (bicycle arms as they move around the room)
- I am riding…on my scooter (slide a foot on the ground and pretend to soar)
- I am driving…on a tractor (pretend to hold a steering wheel, like in the car or truck verse)
It’s always fun to see what the kids come up with and you’ll be surprised by all of their clever and creative ideas!
Here is sheet music to I Am Driving All Around to the tune of Mary Had A Little Lamb. Enjoy!
