5 Songs About Color For Preschoolers

January 29, 2021 by Megan

Preschoolers love all things relating to colors and rainbows, so it’s always a good idea to have some songs on hand to sing about all of the colors.

Here are 5 easy piggyback songs that kids love about colors and rainbows.

What Color Are You Wearing (to the tune of Mary Had A Little Lamb)

If you’re wearing red today, red today, red today.

If you’re wearing red today, stand up and shout hooray!

Repeat several verses to include different colors that your students are wearing.

Orange Is A Carrot (to the tune of Itsy Bitsy Spider)

Orange is a carrot, yellow is a pear.

Purple is a plum and brown is a bear.

Green is the grass and blue is the sky.

Black is a cat and red is cherry pie.

Rainbow Hokey Pokey

You put your red in,

You take your red out,

You put your red in and you shake it all about.

Do the hokey pokey and turn yourself around.

That’s what it’s all about!

There are a few ways to have students participate in this activity. Repeat this song with several verses to include many different colors. You could have students wearing the color named jump to the middle of the circle. Or, you could give students colorful objects or paper cards and have them hold their color towards the middle of the circle when it is named.

We Love Color (to the tune of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes)

Red, yellow, green and blue, green and blue.

Red, yellow green and blue, green and blue.

Purple, orange, brown and black.

Red, yellow, green and blue, green and blue.

Rainbow Color Song (to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)

First comes red and orange too. Shiny yellow, green and blue.

Purple ends the pretty rays, only seen on rainy days.

First comes red and orange too. Shiny yellow, green and blue.
