Looking for creative ways to spark your students’ interest in classical music? Try out this activity, which encourages students to keep the rhythm with Beethoven’s fifth symphony.
This activity can be found in my Beethoven Composer Lesson Plan.
This activity is so easy to do and can be adapted for other pieces of music that have a distinct rhythmic pattern!
First, pass out rhythm sticks to all your students. If none are available, tapping hands to lap or clapping along works great too.
Play Beethoven’s Symphony 5 Movement. 1
Tell your class that they will hear a rhythm pattern of short-short-short-long throughout this piece. First, have them listen to an excerpt of the music, then have them tap along anytime they hear the short-short-short-long pattern.
I hope your students will have as much fun with this activity as mine did!
