Here’s another super easy piggyback song to sing with preschoolers.
I use this song in my We’re Going On A Bear Hunt lesson plan, but it’s also great for classes about fall, nature, or trees.
The Leaves On The Tree is sung to the tune of The Wheels On The Bus, which makes is extremely easy and memorable for kids.
Here are the lyrics and you can find the free sheet music below:
The leaves on the tree are orange and brown,
Orange and brown, orange and brown,
The leaves on the tree are orange and brown,
All day long.
For other verses you can sing:
2. The leaves on the tree go swish, swish, swish…
3. The leaves on the tree come tumbling down…
I taught this song in the fall of 2020 when my preschool music classes were held outdoors due to the pandemic. Before we sang the song, I had each child find 4 leaves on the ground to hold during the song. During the first verse they would wave their leaves in the air. We would sing other similar verses to include other colors if they found different colored leaves.
On the second verse, they would swish their leaves together. On the third verse they would throw a leaf in the air each time we sang “tumbling down”. The kids loved throwing the leaves and we would often pick them back up and sing the last verse over and over again.
