Outer space and things in the sky are such intriguing topics for preschoolers. There is so much wonderful music to explore what’s going on beyond our own planet, so it’s a great theme for a preschool music class.
My Sun, Moon, Stars and Space lesson plan features songs about all things outer space to get kids using their imagination about planets, the stars, spaceships and more.

This lesson plan was designed for movement-based preschool music classes to give kids a chance to practice all of the important developmental milestones that they are learning in their preschool years. It’s a fun way for them to get curious and interested in music and will set them up for success in future music lessons.
My goal with lessons plans is to keep them as simple as possible so that preschool music teachers don’t have to spend a lot of time learning new music or reinventing the wheel. Many of the songs that you will sing with your class are piggyback songs of familiar tunes. The music that you can add to your playlist will become music class staples.
The Sun, Moon, Stars and Space lesson plan includes instructions for 10 activities that can easily fill a 30-minute preschool music class. You can easily make adaptations to the lesson plan by subbing out your own activities, rearranging the order or accommodating different ages.
You can get the full lesson plan in my TeachersPayTeachers store, but here are the highlights:
- 5 easy sing-along songs all about outer space
