I’ve always loved Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and it’s still one of my favorite books to read to my kids at bedtime. They love to say goodnight to everything in their room once we finish reading and it’s the sweetest thing!
If you’re looking for a preschool music lesson plan about Goodnight Moon, find it in my TeachersPayTeachers store.
When I started creating lesson plans for storybooks, I knew that Goodnight Moon had to make the cut.
In addition to the moon and nighttime theme, there are so many wonderful images and nursery rhymes to notice in this story – Hey Diddle Diddle, The Three Little Kittens, the red ballon, the mouse, the little house. It was so fun to gather songs and activities to highlight these simple yet important things.
Did you know there is a beautiful choral setting of Goodnight Moon by Eric Whitacre? I made sure to include it, along with several other wonderful children’s songs on the playlist for this lesson plan.
This lesson plan was created with movement-based preschool music classes in mind. Each song and activity provides intentional ways to help young children work on coordination, fine and gross motor skills, language and literacy skills and other important milestones to set them up for success. You can, of course, adapt it to suit your own situation.
You can find the full lesson plan in my TeachersPayTeachers store, but here are the highlights:
